Terms of service

Last updated: [date].

Draft — these terms have not been reviewed by counsel and are not yet in force. Bracketed values are placeholders.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms govern use of the Spool hosted service ("the service") provided by [legal entity, address] ("we"). By creating a workspace or buying a spool you agree to them.

2. What the service is

The service runs instances of the open-source knit-spool daemon ("spools") on infrastructure we operate, at a hostname we assign, sized to the plan you choose. The daemon is licensed separately under the AGPL-3.0-or-later; these terms do not alter that licence.

3. Accounts and workspaces

A spool belongs to a workspace. You are responsible for the people you invite to it and for keeping your sign-in and your spool's token confidential. [Age / capacity requirement.]

4. Fees and billing

Each spool is a seat on a monthly plan, paid a month in advance through our merchant of record, Polar. Adding a spool is prorated onto the plan's next invoice. Cancelling a spool ends its renewal; the spool runs to the end of the paid period and is then removed. Fees are not refunded. [Price-change notice period.]

5. Acceptable use

You may not use a spool to break the law, to attack or overload other systems, or to circumvent the plan's limits. We may suspend a spool that endangers the fleet. [Notice and cure period; abuse contact.]

6. Your content

A spool stores sealed frames we cannot read. You retain whatever rights you hold in them. We do not moderate content because we cannot see it. [Lawful-request handling.]

7. Availability and support

The service is provided as is, without an uptime commitment. We aim to keep spools running and will tell you when one is not. Support is by email at support@getknit.app. [Warranty disclaimer.]

8. Ending the agreement

You can cancel a spool or delete your workspace at any time; the paid period runs out and the data is removed. We may end the agreement for breach of section 5 [and otherwise on notice period].

9. Liability

[Limitation of liability, to the extent permitted by applicable law.]

10. Changes to these terms

[How changes are announced, and from when they apply.]

11. Governing law

[Jurisdiction and venue.]
